Motovun

Motovun

According to legend, Motovun was built by giants, of which is the most famous giant Big Joza. Its history begins in the time of Celts, who raised its settlement sekusi at the place of nowadays Motovun. This ancient Istrian town located on the top 277 meter high hill, whose appearance derives from the 12th and 13th century. To the top of Motovun hill, to its Venetian town square, leads The longest flight with 1052 stairs.

Famous people and Motovun Film Festival
Motovun is a birthplace of the ship''s screws inventor Josef Ressel, whose motive propeller became the trademark of international Motovun film festival, successfully hosted here since 1999.
Motovun Film Festival is a five-day movie marathon in which the continuous projections in series from 10 am to 4 after midnight, and in the open, living in the cinema-halls. The only criterion for the selection of films is to fit into inventive, libertarian atmosphere of the festival.

Famed is Motovun’s Mario Andretti, legendary World Champion of the formula 1 Match Race. The Central square Andrea Antico is named after a famous composer and inventor of musical letters who was born in Motovun in the second half of the 15th century. On the square is the Baroque church of St. Stephen built in 1614 at the site of earlier churches. Along with the church has belfry - the tower from the 13th century with a ragged parapet, built when the first church in which he built the foundations of the present.

The truffles, wine and dragons
Surrounding provides the ability to walk through the Motovun woods, where you can find mushrooms - excellent gourmet specialty, vineyards on the south-western slopes of the hill, and hunting and bike rides. In this area thrives Motovun’s Grape Teran, Pinot and Malvasia. Underneath the settlement, called Kanal, from 1903 to this day maintains a herd fair, every third Monday of the month.
Along with a rich history, Motovun is full of dedication and belief: most say that Motovun lies on the source of energy, where the crisis is "dragon’s line," and, because of that benefit everybody here is always in good mood.
